What's New on Apple iOS 10.2 Upgrade

Apple released iOS 10.2 on December 12, 2016, available to the public.

Still no toggle off for Handwriting Mode in landscape mode, the feature that's aggravating thousands of Apple users.

Here is the screen that pops up countless times when you don't want it -- like when you are showing a photo in a text to someone standing next to you, or when you place your phone on a desk and the phone detects you're in landscape mode.

This has to be one of the worst features Apple has ever released in its' entire history because it accidently activates.

Gas Buddy Says: Sorry But We Can't Find You Right Now" While on GasBuddy.com on Safari on Apple iPhone

When you visit GasBuddy.com on Safari instead of using the app, you can touch a button that says "Find Gas Near Me" ... When you touch the button for the first time, you get a message asking for permission to tell Safari your location. If you say no, the next time you use GasBuddy.com, you might get a message that says, "Sorry but we can't find you right now." You get this message because Safari remembers that you didn't give the website and Safari permission to look up your location.

Lost Sound on iPhone: Speakers are Silent on Apple iPhone

Losing your sound on an Apple iPhone can be very frustrating. You might discover you are not hearing your phone ring or you are not hearing any type of sound coming from the speaker(s). You might not be able to hear the person you are trying to talk to on a phone conversation, or you might not be able to hear music or a streaming app.

The first obvious item to check is the Ring/Silent switch.  Unfortunately Apple uses a poor design for the switch and it is very easily accidentally turned off. If you find it is off, and you turn it on, and you have sound ... good, you're done. That was easy.

Still no sound. Check the up or down volume buttons on the side of your phone. If the volume is all the way down, move up the volume up and down and see if you have sound. If you have sound, good.

Still no sound? Now you have to try a few things.

Go to Settings > Sounds and drag the Ringer And Alerts slider to turn the volume up.

Still no sound?

Comcast Xfinity Remote Volume Button Doesn't Work, But Channel Change Buttons Work

You may have discovered one day that your Comcast Xfinity Remote XR2 version R1 Remote doesn't work property. The symptoms might include the following ...

The change channel buttons (up and down) work,

the numbers work to change channels,

setup buttons work and you can even pair the remote; but

the volume button (up and down) doesn't work.

Here is the fix ...

1) Press the Setup button (lower left) until the top All Power button illuminates and changes from red to green.

2) Immediately after the All Power button turns green, enter 9-8-1, using the number keys.

3) Next, check the volume button (up and down), which should now work, indicated by hearing the volume change and the TV display showing the horizontal volume slider indicator with movement.

If it doesn't immediately work, check the Comcast instructions below -- related to battery life -- repeating the process. If it still doesn't work, return the remote and exchange the remote for a new remote at a Comcast Xfinity location.

Best Way to Improve Battery Life on iPhones and iPads from Apple Per Each Charge

Turn Off Push Mail

Most people use text messaging for instant messaging and alerts. Therefore most people don't need a constant connection with their mail server. Plus whenever a user opens Mail, a connection is established to the server and mail is received.

To stop you Apple iPhone from continuously checking the email server to see if the server has new mail, users can tell the iPhone to check every 15, 30 or 60 minutes.  That means the Apple iPhone will fetch the mail in one of those time intervals.

If you ever are in a position where you need to hear an incoming email immediately, you can always turn PUSH back on.

Go to Settings -> Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Fetch New Data

Right under your list of Mail Accounts, you will see "Fetch New Data" ... It will be configured to PUSH or FETCH. If it says PUSH, the user's phone is using a lot of battery power.

Touch PUSH >

Scroll to the bottom and choose Every 15, 30 Minutes or Hourly under Fetch.

If necessary for each individual email account that may be configured to FETCH, tap on each individual email account and, if possible, change it to FETCH. Each individual email account will pickup the FETCH interval specified above.

For example, AOL stayed on PUSH when the main FETCH was configured. It can be changed to FETCH individually.

Don't Deprecate the CENTER Tag; There Is No Simpler and More Reliable Replacement in HTML, XTML, or CSS

The <center> tag is a simple way of quickly center-aligning blocks of text, Twitter embed code, Facebook embed code, and images by encapsulating the container in a <center> tag

Centered with the <CENTER></CENTER> tag (functions properly) ...

So-called experts recommend people use <div style="text-align:center">xyz</div>

This works for text and images, and Facebook embeds, but it doesn't work for Twitter embeds.

Twitter single post embed centered with <div style="text-align:center"> (DOES NOT WORK) ...
Notice that the embed below is left aligned. It is not centered.

Twitter timelines are centered properly with , but individual Tweet post embeds do NOT center properly.

How does Blogger center?
The code works with plain text.

This text is center by Blogger formatting.

Blogger uses <div style="text-align: center;">

Interesting comment ...

"The CENTER element is exactly equivalent to specifying the DIV element with the align attribute set to "center"." except it is clear by looking at the tag that it is centered. If this was a valid reason, we could depricate <strong>, <b>, all <h> and other tags and say they do the same thing as <span> with some css. besides, XHTML doesn't even recognize HTML5 tags such as canvas. It is only deprecated because of the war against marquees, centers, tables, frame which is purely religious, as they all have a place. – Dmitry Jun 5 at 18:23
