You may have discovered one day that your Comcast Xfinity Remote XR2 version R1 Remote doesn't work property. The symptoms might include the following ...
The change channel buttons (up and down) work,
the numbers work to change channels,
setup buttons work and you can even pair the remote; but
the volume button (up and down) doesn't work.
Here is the fix ...
1) Press the Setup button (lower left) until the top All Power button illuminates and changes from red to green.
2) Immediately after the All Power button turns green, enter 9-8-1, using the number keys.
3) Next, check the volume button (up and down), which should now work, indicated by hearing the volume change and the TV display showing the horizontal volume slider indicator with movement.
If it doesn't immediately work, check the Comcast instructions below -- related to battery life -- repeating the process. If it still doesn't work, return the remote and exchange the remote for a new remote at a Comcast Xfinity location.
Verbatim from Comcast: Remote Control Buttons Don't Work - Troubleshooting
Introduction
If you have an XFINITY remote and the buttons are not responding or performing as expected when you press them, follow the steps below to troubleshoot the problem.
Troubleshoot Unresponsive Remote Buttons
Press a button on the remote:
If the LED does not flash at all, replace the batteries and try again.
If the LED flashes red five times on any button press, this is an indication that the batteries are very low and should be replaced.
If the buttons are still unresponsive, chat with us for assistance.
Factory Reset the Voice Remote from XFINITY
If the buttons on your voice remote from XFINITY (model XR11) are still unresponsive, you may need to perform a factory reset. To perform a factory reset:
Press the Setup button until the LED at the top of the remote changes from red to green.
Press 9-8-1.
The LED will blink green twice to indicate that the remote was reset.
After the factory reset is complete, you'll need to re-pair your remote with a TV box. See the instructions for pairing your XFINITY remote and TV box.
Paired Remotes and Multiple TV Boxes
Pairing the remote to a TV box means that the remote will control only that box unless it is then paired to a different box. If you have multiple TV boxes and have paired your remote to one of your TV boxes, make sure that you are using the remote that is paired to that specific TV box. See the instructions for pairing your XFINITY remote and TV box. If the buttons are still unresponsive, chat with us for assistance.
